You always have a choice

Life can be hectic and complicated.  There are lots of options and even when we are doing something we love, we don’t always *feel the love* in it….

A trick I rely on to re-motivate myself when I start losing confidence or start feeling like everything is taking way too much effort is this: I remind myself that I can choose to do nothing.

huh?

Yep, this kick-starts me into questioning whether or not that is what I really want –and it rarely is.  Because the truth of the matter is that I am doing what I love, and I have specific goals for myself.  Yes, I can choose to do nothing, but that makes me feel a little sick, let down and small.

This technique stems from a little something my mom used to do when I didn’t want to go to school.  She’d just say: “ok, you don’t have to” and that would always make me think about what I wanted to do.  And usually, it was to actually go to school, be with my friends, get my work done and not miss out on anything.

And so, next time you don’t feel like getting something done, or you just feel stuck: remind yourself of what you really want, and what it takes to get there.  You don’t have to do the hardest thing at that moment, but do do something.
