Downward Facing Dog: how to get out of that rut

Do you start projects with tons of energy and enthusiasm only to find yourself completely stalled a few weeks down the line? where did all those brilliant ideas go? where’s the mojo? what happened to the love?

Well, if you’ve been keeping a list of all your creative inspirations, then referring to it is the quickest and easiest way to realize you are not a complete void! and hopefully rekindle some aha! moments. Your list should spark your imagination and get you back on the go train.

But then what if it happens again…and again. To avoid the feast or famine cycle of ideas you need to keep a list and plan them out over time. For example, if you want blog ideas: brainstorm 10 topics that are useful for your audience and then schedule them into your calendar. That way you aren’t scrambling for ideas each week. Even better, you can create themes and have some interesting continuity to your posts that provide extra value to your readers.

But what if you’ve done all that and still feel stuck in a rut? Then I suggest you take time to reflect on some root causes of your state. Are you nervous about putting yourself out there? Are you lacking commitment? Are you maybe doing something you thought would be easy but turns out to take more effort than you are willing to put in? Or are you just keeping yourself safe by talking about your dreams without really investing in them?

Hard questions, but this is the difference between being top dog versus the underdog.

It is easy to be the underdog. It takes no planning, effort or risk. But it also sucks. And you are way better than that.

Time to unleash the top dog! Thinking about being top dog is sometimes uncomfortable, especially because we often have negative associations to it. But the top dog I am referring to is just the best, most productive, stellar version of you actively doing what you thrive on and providing your customers, clients, and readers the very best you have to offer.

So what does being top dog look like to you? Remember, this top dog is just taking her rightful position to be the best at what she loves, being awesome to herself and her people.

Now, get back to that list of creative, beautiful ideas and plans and take some action!
